8th GradeThis week, 8th graders will be both wrapping up a concept and jumping into new civic territory. 8th Graders will be finishing up their discussion of 4th Amendment rights in schools by completing persuasive essays on the topic. The first draft of these essays is due on Friday 12/4 Additionally, students will begin identifying their civic responsibilities, on their path to finding the connections between them and their civic rights and values. 7th Grade7th Grade has moved straight into the Age of Exploration. Students will spend the next few weeks studying different explorers, their impacts on the new world, their relationship with indigenous peoples, and how they set course for the creation of the United States.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!Classes will only take place Monday - Tuesday, Nov 23-24 this week. Classes will resume on Monday, November 30th. Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break!! 8th Grade8th Grade will finish out the week with a final case study on students 4th Amendment rights in order to prepare for their upcoming writing assignments that will be assigned after break. Students have a graphic organizer that MUST be filled out over break! 7th Grade7th Grade spend the week finishing their look at the Vikings arrival in the Americas. A small branch off our intro to the Age of Exploration that will begin after break.

Students will then take a deeper dive into the limiting of rights on students in school. 7th Grade7th Grade will finish up watching the movie The Road to El Dorado. They will then take a look at the legend of El Dorado on our path towards finishing up our study of Ancient Native American Civilizations this week.
7th GradeThis week the 7th grade will finish up their study of North American Native Americans through some compare and contrast activities. They will then begin their study of 3 Central and South American Native American groups: the Maya, the Inca, and the Aztecs 8th Grade8th Grade will continue with a study of their rights and responsibilities, in the path learning about being active and responsible civic actors. This weeks focus will include the Bill of Rights and discussion on the protection of their rights by the Constitution.

Students were able to vote last week Friday, and winners will be announced Wednesday Oct, 14th. 7th Grade7th Grade will spend the week researching a putting together a class presentation on an assigned country for Hispanic Heritage Month. A wrap up of our discussions on Native Americans will take place next week.
Indigenous Peoples' Day--No Classes on 10-12-20Progress Reports mailed out Friday, October 9th.8th Grade8th Grade will continue their introduction into understanding their roles as Civic Actors, and the powers that they hold in their society. In addition, students will be given class time early in the week to make up missing assignments and ask any questions they may have on past assignments. 7th Grade7th Grade will continue their discussions on Native American Tribes, both ancient and present day. We will also be looking at the concept of cultural appropriation and having discussion on where it is seen in our society today. Welcome back Ray families! I am so excited to be starting off out 20/21 school year with all of you. While this year will be unusual, but by working together we are going to knock it out of the park! Remote Learning will create its own set of unique challenges. But just like when we are learning in person, we will identify those challenges, find solutions to them, and grow from them. I promise to be forgiving and flexible with you, and I hope you will do the same for your other teachers and myself!
